Abracadabra loosely means “I create as I speak”. I learned that this weekend during a Karmafest talk about the power to rewire your brain. I always thought it was a made up word by magicians to get a rabbit out of a hat or some other incatation. Now there is no actual documentation to prove this - the internet suggests that the word might come from a Hebrew phrase that means "I will create as I speak" or Aramaic "I create like the word" but no-one really knows for certain.
When there is a lack of evidence to prove something, the default response is to interpret. I interpret Abracadabar to mean: My words have meaning. I say words and they create something. On the surface, that sounds beautiful, like how the words a poet places on a page creates poetry.
But like most things, there is both good and bad that can come from something. Like everyone, I have the power to say or breathe good into this world or the power to breathe bad. I can wake up and choose to say something nice with my words or to spread love to another with kindness through words. I could write a blog post that could sow inspiration in others. I also have the same power to sew doubt, create confusion, fan the flames of hatred and so much more.
"I create as I speak" is a powerful interpretation of the word Abracadabra. It has power over others, but it also has power over me. If I speak that I am not capable, then surely by breathing those words out in the world, I am absorbing them back in me. I can change my entire mindset with just one word - ABRACADABRA.
