The Parable of the Sunglasses

· Perspective,Self-Love,Change

Grab your nearest pair of sunnies (as we call them in Australia) and be super critical toward them. Look carefully and find all of the faults with them: are they ugly, scratched, broken, deformed, dirty? Say those things to your sunglasses. (It’s ok, if someone asks, just say it’s an experiment).

Now find every beautiful thing about the sunglasses. Say it out loud. What are the best features of the sunglasses? Protection for eyes, glamorous looking, comfortable on your face?

Quick question: after each experiment, did the sunglasses change? Nope! Not one bit.

And that is exactly how we can be too. If you want to get rid of what people think about you, you have to give up the power that approval and disapproval have over your life. When both approval and disapproval reach a point where it doesn’t affect you, you too can be just like sunglasses - unaffected by anything the outside world has to throw at you.
